
On the second day of participation at the Munich Security Conference, President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic met with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Albanian President Ilir Meta, and Prime Ministers of Georgia and Kosovo, Mamuka Bakhtadze and Ramush Haradinaj.
In his talk with President Pahor, he expressed his mutual satisfaction with the continuous dialogue at a high political level, excellent bilateral relations and friendship that is of particular importance to both countries. Relations between Montenegro and Slovenia are an illustration of friendship that is of great importance to Slovenia, said President Pahor. Both countries are friends in political and security sense, Pahor stressed, and it can do a lot for the region. The experience of Montenegro, its entry into NATO and an excellent position on the path to the EU represent a fantastic success and are valuable for the wider region of the Western Balkans, the Slovenian President said. President Djukanovic expressed his gratitude to Slovenia for its continued support for the ambitions of Montenegro and the path of integration and achievement of the European value system. Satisfaction with the level of cooperation and the development of friendly relations was expressed during the meeting of President Djukanovic with the Prime Minister of Georgia Bakhtadze. He expressed his gratitude for Montenegro’s support for their aspirations toward integration, which was repeated today by President Djukanovic, who said that our country strongly supports the sovereign right of every country to choose the path of its further strategic development, and remains committed to the policy of open NATO doors. President Djukanovic also met with the President of Ukraine Poroshenko, with whom he also had a brief tete-a-tete conversation. The two Presidents agreed that in the forthcoming period they will work on intensifying bilateral relations in areas of common interest, especially bearing in mind the success of Montenegro in the integration processes and aspirations of Ukraine in this direction.
Relations in the Western Balkans region and further progress in resolving remaining open issues were the subject of separate talks between President Djukanovic and Albanian President Meta and Prime Minister of Kosovo Haradinaj. The stability of the region and its full integration into European structures are the primary interest of all countries. To this end, it is necessary to further strengthen the EU’s presence in the Western Balkans and to strengthen the attention of key European centers.
The more recent continuation and intensification of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is of particular importance for the stability of the region. Excellent bilateral relations were noted with both Albania and Kosovo and readiness for their further strengthening.
