On 16 May 2019, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis met with Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ms Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and expressed strong support of Latvia to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and its constant course of Euro-Atlantic integration.
“We are pleased that Ukraine has made important reforms. From our experience, we know that the path of reforms is not easy. However, it is important that Ukraine continues its efforts, especially in the areas of justice, business and investment climate, and anti-corruption,” emphasised Raimonds Vējonis.
The President of Latvia noted that the presidential elections in Ukraine had taken place in accordance with international electoral standards. They demonstrate the country’s progress in strengthening democratic institutions. Latvia remains ready to provide its support to Ukraine in the future as well, so we look forward to closer cooperation with the newly elected President of Ukraine, Mr Volodymyr Zelensky.
“I would also like to note the close and constructive cooperation with President Petro Poroshenko over the years, which has greatly helped to strengthen the relations between Latvia and Ukraine,” stated Raimonds Vējonis.
