The Second Round of Negotiations for a Social Security Agreement between Japan and the Republic of Finland

1. The Second round of negotiations for a social security agreement between Japan and the Republic of Finland will start from November 26, 2018 in Tokyo.

2. This round will be attended by Mr. Hiroaki Sano, Negotiator for Treaties, European Policy Division, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on the Japanese side, and by Ms. Essi Rentola, Director of Department for Insurance and Social Security, Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and other officials on the Finnish side.

3. Employees sent from Japan to Finland as well as those sent from Finland to Japan are currently obliged to affiliate to the social security systems of both countries thus causing duplicate payments of social security contribution which impose a large economic burden on both individuals and corporations. It is expected that the conclusion of this agreement will solve such problem, thereby further facilitate human and economic exchanges between the two countries.
